The flood level in Mopti nearly reached its peak. Based on the information available on 15 October, OPIDIN predicts that the flood of 2019 will be above average compared to the floods of the last 25 years, and not as high as last year.

The water level in Mopti increased another 8 cm last week (7-15 October), although the rise in water level has slowed down. The water level in Mopti is now reaching a level of 626 cm, which is c. 30 cm lower than on 15 October in 2018  and in 2016 (when the floods were very high). OPIDIN predicts for 2019 that the water level in Mopti will increase only another a few cm’s and nearly reached its maximum. The increase depends on the rainfall in the Guinea and southwest Mali, which is forecasted to be below average. The maximal flood level will be a bit higher than 2013 or 2015, but not as high as in 2016 and 2018.

The peak in Mopti will be reached in the third week of October and the flood will be at its maximum in Akka in the third week of November. Based on the current prediction, the south-western part of the Inner Niger Delta may become available for grazing cattle in the last week of November.
